I came out here to disappear where the waves fold beneath the pier I know it's a lonely place with the winter night on the water's face I know Wharf was such a magic word I could leave my life like a drink at the bar, pull loose like a shell from cement I know put my effects in plastic bags and dump them around town, cut the labels from my clothes I know Wharf was such a magic word I stumbled over tank traps and left my watch on the wall by The Red Lion, drank lager in The Sun I know I was drunk on déjà vu I hid booze in the drawers and dreams in the walls I know Wharf was such a magic word

I was walking backwards in a fog where ghost memories confront me on North Street, to catch desire like a cold in strange pubs on the outskirts of outskirts. All it took was a wave breaking over yesterdays, leafing through monstrous love in the charnel house of the past. Down the Leith, past endless Prets and Greene King pubs through dreams of disappointed people, in an empty chamber of an April night I forgot like hell.

when the sun strikes the dial when the sun strikes the dial that's when I know where love comes from that's when I know where love comes from what a way to go back home what a way to go back home the sun is sinking like a stone the sun is sinking like a stone and I miss the secret world and I miss the secret world

Like the sudden weight of mercury, which makes time run backwards or clouds disappear. Under the weight of memory, silver birches ghostly, we'd argue, laugh and argue again. Every dream has an obstacle, obstacles are unwanted and needed. I wasn't waiting for you here in the streetlight so clear, it takes a lot to come back home. Every dream is an obstacle, obstacles are unwanted and needed. What is this weight that holds me down? What summer have you broken from? It hurts my mind!

Try to remember what you want to forget, its symbolic endings, a field of fire. In nights that smell of keys, what have I undone, an unremembered knot? My mind is a meadow and it glows at night, natureless in ecstasies, the crack in the wall, the jagged edge of a migraine aura, the pattern in the stars. Try to find the current, the seam that unlocks summer lightning, the god beneath the grid. Sometimes you want to go where no one knows your name.

I don't remember coming home, I'm told the night was full of stars. One more silhouette although I don't smoke, maybe one more drink in a fictional pub downtown? How can you say it's not always this way, in the pissed haze of a cider-rich night? Some people say that it's only a walk in the park, some people say that's baloney, getting lost in the dark. Anxiety received them like a grand hotel and the staff are so rude at the anxiety hotel. It's pissing it down outside the lobby, it's a sick mood at sunset for the seventh imagining of William Street, person sometimes. I don't remember coming home, although the night was full of stars.
13.
I want to swear at you through a one-way mirror or is it a two-way mirror? Either way, it'd do me good. It never goes away. Have you ever felt a sense of unreality, a vague sense of unreality at a sunlit wedding? I stumbled through a dream only to find its pub wasn't working. It never goes away, it never goes away.

Oh take me down, underground river, into the shadows, oh underground river.
