about

'Such is the endlessness, yea, the intolerableness of all earthly effort.'
– Moby Dick, Herman Melville

This is another collection of ambient songs that I have recorded over the last couple of years. I became very interesting in capturing the strange resonances that appear naturally on the SH101 when two notes are played together (which is obviously impossible with a monophonic synth, so I used multi-tracking, the hold function, and a Freeze pedal). You sometimes get these beautiful scales appearing out of nowhere which are like snowflakes – totally unique and once they've gone they've gone!

These songs are more droney than the first Tape Dreams album. They were all recorded on the SH101, apart from Green Sees Things in Waves which was written with soft synths (but then bounced to tape to keep things analogue).

You can probably tell from the titles (Hall of Bright Carvings and Fuchsia) that I'm currently rereading Gormenghast and it is brilliant.

Cover photo was taken in Santiago, Chile in 2014.
